Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler and Robin Moore
"Ballad of the Green Berets," is a Patriotic song about the Green Berets, the United States Army Special Forces. This song was a positive song supporting the war, unlike most songs during the Vietnam. It honors the Green Beret James Gabriel Jr, the first Hawaiian to be killed in the Vietnam War, in 1962. Artist, Barry Sadler, served as a Green Beret, with the rank Staff Sergeant, in the Vietnam War. Being supportive of the war effort, it was a response to all of the anti-war music being written at the time. It came out in 1966, just a few months after "Eve of Destruction" was released (Ballad of the Green Berets).
